Small Talk, Big Adventures

What’s the best way to meet new people while traveling?

Honestly? Talk to people!

One of my favorite things to do when traveling is chat with locals, especially the people working at coffee shops and restaurants. I’ll usually ask them where they recommend going, what’s worth checking out, or if there’s anything fun to do nearby. You’d be surprised how often a simple conversation can lead to discovering new places, meeting people, and finding adventures you might not have stumbled across otherwise.

That’s actually how we found a few spots in Solvang! We stopped at a coffee shop, spotted a magazine full of things to do around town, and asked the person working there where they thought we should start. From there, we got some recommendations for Solvang itself, but we also asked about things to do in the surrounding areas. That’s how we learned about Ostrich Land USA!

And honestly, those little interactions are some of my favorite parts of traveling. Sure, you can spend hours scrolling through travel blogs and Google Maps (guilty!), but sometimes the best recommendations come from someone who actually lives in the area.

So, my advice? Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation! Ask questions, be curious, and see where the conversation takes you. You might discover a hidden gem, find your next favorite spot, or end up on an adventure you never planned for.

Just remember to use your judgment, respect people’s time, and stay safe when meeting new people. You never know what little adventure might be waiting around the corner!
