My October 2026 Movie Lineup

Advertisements

So, Hector and I decided a while ago to redo our 2023 list of 31 movies to watch in October! It was a mix of mostly horror and thriller movies that we either didn’t remember very well or had never seen before.

This year’s list is a little different. We kept some of the movies from the 2023 list, obviously took off the ones we watched that year and just didn’t feel like rewatching, and added a few new ones!

If we didn’t manage to get through the whole list before having a baby, I definitely don’t think we’re going to make it through with a newborn. But we’re going to try!

Also, I’m posting this a little late on the 3rd, so I included the three movies we’ve already watched this month.

But here’s our list of 31 movies for October

🎃 Spooky Movies

Trick ’r Treat – Still haven’t seen it. Three years later.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown – Even if Hector did see this in 2023, it’s a classic and needs to be watched every year.

The Purge – I’ve never seen any of this series. I was told to only watch the first one, so that’s what we’re doing.

Pet Sematary (1989) – I think this one is better than the remake. Nothing beats the original.

The Thing – I swore I had watched this. Apparently, I watched The Fog instead. I guess I wasn’t paying attention.

The Amityville Horror – Just needed a rewatch.

Frankenstein – The Guillermo del Toro version. I already watched this when it came out and immediately fell in love with it. Anything Guillermo del Toro makes, I’m watching.

The Devil’s Backbone – Another Guillermo del Toro movie, but I’ve never seen this one.

Pan’s Labyrinth – Hector has never seen it. It’s also the 20th anniversary! Del Toro describes The Devil’s Backbone as the masculine “brother” — a ghost story set in 1939 during the final days of the Spanish Civil War — and Pan’s Labyrinth as the feminine “sister” — a dark fairy tale set in 1944 during post-war Francoist Spain.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? – I still haven’t shown this to Hector. Three years later.

The Witch – Hector suggested this one since I’ve never seen it. But once I saw it was a Robert Eggers movie, I immediately asked who Willem Dafoe was in it because apparently he’s been in every Robert Eggers movie I’ve seen.

Children of the Corn – Hector has never seen it.

🍂 Not-So-Spooky Fall Movies

For the not-so-spooky movies, just some basic fall movies:

Mona Lisa Smile – Or, as Hector calls it, the female version of Dead Poets Society.

Dead Poets Society – Obviously.

Good Will Hunting – I heard some kids nowadays say Will was autistic, but he’s not. He’s an underprivileged genius. And this is how I know media literacy is dead.

Stepmom – Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts. This movie is a masterpiece.

Twilight series – It’s time for the annual rewatch. I’ll be doing this one alone because Hector hates these movies.

Silver Linings Playbook – I never once thought Jennifer Lawrence was supposed to be 30 in this movie!

Labyrinth – Hector has never seen it, and it’s one of my favorites. I actually kind of want to dress up as this for Halloween, but I can’t keep changing my mind about my costume.

The Dark Crystal – Another classic childhood movie Hector never watched. And it’s perfect for fall.

The Witches of Eastwick – Who doesn’t love Jack Nicholson?

The Haunted Mansion — all 3 versions – The Eddie Murphy version, The Muppets Haunted Mansion made for Disney+, and the 2023 remake. Or the version that’s more connected to the ride? I don’t know. The one that came out a few years ago.

👻 Movies We’ve Already Watched This Month

Resident Evil – It was good! As a fan of the games, I enjoyed it very much. But, I mean, it’s a Zach Cregger movie — did we expect it to be bad?

The Sixth Sense – I’ve known the spoiler for this movie my entire life, so I never watched it. But it’s actually really good.

Cobweb – A movie that came out in 2023 that we always said we would watch but never did. I’m kind of mad we didn’t see it in theaters, but the ending kind of sucked to me.

And that’s our October movie list! 31 movies, a mix of horror, classics, fall movies, and movies Hector and I somehow still hasn’t seen.

My “Top Ten” Favorite Movies (But Actually… It’s Only Eight)

Advertisements

What are your top ten favorite movies?

I love asking people what their favorite movies are. It always says so much about them—what makes them laugh, cry, or just curl up with a big blanket and a bowl of popcorn. So I thought I’d share mine with you today!

Now, technically this is supposed to be a Top Ten list… but full honesty? I don’t actually have ten favorite movies. I have eight. And one random Hillary Duff movie that almost no one remembers but I will forever defend. So, let’s just pretend that still counts.

Here’s my list:

1. Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Yes, I mean the Keira Knightley version. It’s gorgeous, it’s dreamy, it’s got Mr. Darcy’s hand flex (if you know, you know). Instant comfort watch.

2. Roman Holiday

Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, Rome, a stolen day of freedom… pure magic. I don’t make the rules.

3. Howl’s Moving Castle

One of my favorite Studio Ghibli films. Howl is dramatic, Sophie is quietly strong, and the whole movie just feels like a warm hug.

4. Little Miss Sunshine

Dysfunctional family road trip of dreams. Funny, weird, and somehow heartbreaking too. The ending scene? Chef’s kiss.

5. Beauty and the Beast (1991)

I have a soft spot for the classic Disney cartoons! While the live-action versions have their charm—seriously, the song “Evermore” is beautiful—I just can’t resist the magic of Belle exploring that amazing library in the animated version. There’s something so special about the animation that brings it to life!.

6. Scream

A slasher that’s scary and self-aware? Yes please. Also, Sidney Prescott deserved way more hype as an ultimate final girl. I’ve watched all the movies and even that short-lived TV show.

7. Me Before You

This made me sob uncontrollably, like a full ugly cry. It’s beautiful, and I can’t leave it out. Even though this movie is a literal masterpiece, the books are still better.

8. Raise Your Voice

Okay, so this is my “nobody talks about it but I still love it” pick. Hillary Duff at music school. Is it cheesy? Yes. Do I rewatch it anyway? Also yes. Nostalgia always wins.

My 2023 Halloween Movie Lineup

Advertisements

This year, I am prepping for Halloween early.

I say that every year, but I mean it this year. I already brought one of my Halloween costumes. That’s right, multiple costumes, and I already have one. I’m not running around like a chicken with its head cut off for me this year. We have 40 days to go, and I’m ready.

I already have Halloween desserts I plan to share with you guys starting the first. I’m still finding fun activities for the kids, and I’ll share those, too.

I want to get into a spooky mood; the best way is to watch movies.

Here’s my list of 31 movies to watch this year based on movies my partner or I haven’t seen, don’t remember watching, or didn’t finish. I’m tired of watching the same film yearly, so let’s mix it up.

1. Practical Magic – How anyone has not seen this is beyond me, but he hasn’t.

2. Trick ‘r Treat – I’ve never heard of this, but apparently, it’s like a highly-rated movie. The little character looks cute, tho.

3. The Birds – a classic that somehow my partner has missed. It was even filmed in California; I have visited the town it was filmed in twice.

4. It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown. – this one hurt my soul when he said he vaguely remembered it being on TV but has no memory of it.

5. Rosemary’s Baby – I joked the new season of American Horror Story was just a Rosemary’s Baby missing the tannis root, and he looked at me like I spoke gibberish, so I added it to the list.

6. House on Haunted Hill -Vincent Price is the master of horror. I have a Vincent Price pin on my jacket, and all this time, my partner thought it was Edgar Allen Poe.

7. The Purge – I’ve never seen any of this series

8. Sleepy Hallow – this one we vaguely remember. I only remember Johnny Depp being hot.

9. Carrie (the original) – I only remember the part with her dress and her mother yelling about it being red.

10. The Blackening– I’m still mad we missed watching this in theaters

11. The Witches (90s version) – We’ve seen this, but it’s time to introduce my niece to this movie since she is reading the book.

12. Pet Sematary (the remake) – I usually avoid watching remakes unless it’s a Disney live-action, so I don’t know how we agreed to watch this.

13. The Thing– is yet another classic that I have never seen.

14. A Quiet Place – I never finished this. I watched the first five minutes and then got distracted or disinterested.

15. Cujo– all I know about this movie is that it is about a dog.

16. Amityville horror– I’ve only seen the remake of this, and it wasn’t horrible, but I heard the original is better.

17. Scream– technically this is like six movies, because I want to watch all of them finally.

18. Frankenstein– my partner never saw this. Not that I blame him. It is black and white and slow, but still fabulous.

19. The Bride of Frankenstein -This man is going to learn about my love for Frankenstein

I mean he knows I love Frankenstein, considering I have these pins

20. Young Frankenstein– the Puttin’ on the Ritz scene is legendary.

21. Midsommar– I was told I wouldn’t like it when it was in theaters, so I never tried watching it, but Florence Pugh is in it, and I watched Dont Worry Darling, and I’m sure this is a better movie.

22. The Omen- this movie used to haunt me as a child, so I’ve never rewatched it

23. Silence of the Lambs- I saw Hannibal, but not the movie

24. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?- a classic, but I don’t know if this is a scary movie; it is a thriller for its time.

25. Split- the leading actor deserves all of the awards.

26. Only lovers left alive- it’s been on our watchlist on Max forever. All I know is it’s about Tom Hiddleston as a vampire.

27. Psycho- I watched Bates Motel, but I’ve never watched Psycho, which is so funny because I love anything by Hitchcock

These movies are in theaters or they will be coming out soon. I attached the trailer to all of them.

1. Deliver Us– comes out September 29th

2. Totally killer– it comes out Oct 7

3. Five Nights at Freddy’s – comes out on October 27

4. Impuratus– this movie is so confusing. It says it came out in 2022, but it also says it’s coming out this year in November. Who knows
