Welcome to My Unsolicited Thoughts

How do you write what people actually want to read?

I don’t.

At least, not intentionally.

I write what I like. I write what I need to vent about. I write about whatever is currently taking up approximately 87% of the available space in my brain. And sometimes I write about something that feels like a completely unique experience, only to realize, “Oh… wait. Everyone is doing this. Cool.”

Mostly, I write for me and then cross my fingers that someone else reads it and thinks, “Oh my God, SAME.”

And honestly? A lot of my posts get overlooked.

Unless I’m answering a prompt, there’s a pretty good chance my carefully crafted thoughts are just floating around the internet minding their own business while everyone scrolls past them. Which, admittedly, can be a little discouraging.

But I still keep writing them.

Because I’ve always loved talk shows. As a kid, I was obsessed with the idea of being that woman. You know the one.

The perfect wife. The perfect woman. The woman who can somehow do it all.

She has the beautifully decorated house, dinner on the table, perfectly styled hair, flawless makeup, an adorable outfit, and somehow still has the energy to sit down and have a meaningful conversation about life.

I wanted to be her.

Unfortunately, there was one tiny flaw in this plan.

I do not have an assistant.

I do not have a hair and makeup team.

I do not have a maid.

I do not have a personal chef.

I don’t even have a camera crew standing behind me ready to dramatically zoom in when I make an excellent point.

I have me.

And sometimes “me” is sitting in bed, surrounded by laundry, thinking about something that happened three hours ago and deciding the only reasonable response is to turn it into a blog post.

I think that’s why I write the way I do.

I’m not trying to manufacture the perfect story or figure out exactly what people want to hear. I’m just documenting the chaos as I experience it.

Motherhood. Relationships. Books. Food. Anxiety. Random observations. Things I probably should have kept in my head but absolutely did not.

It’s basically a written version of me saying, “Okay, hear me out…”

And maybe that’s the point.

Because I don’t think most people are looking for another perfectly polished person who has figured everything out. Sometimes you just want to hear someone say, “Hey, I have no idea what I’m doing either.”

So I write what feels honest.

I write what makes me laugh.

I write what makes me think.

I write what I need to get out of my head before it starts paying rent.

And then I hope someone reads it and finds a little piece of themselves in it.

Because maybe I don’t know how to write what people actually want to read.

But I do know how to write what I actually want to say.

Even if nobody reads it.

Although, obviously, I would prefer if somebody did.

I’m still a blogger, not a monk.

And honestly?

That feels a lot more me.
