Did you miss me?

Hey there!

It’s been two months, and so much has happened! I broke my ankle, started school again, and got a car!!! I really need to talk about everything going on before I burst.

Let’s start with last week. I had the best night ever! I went to the Wallows concert at the Forum with Hector. Even though he’s not the biggest fan of the Wallows, he knows that I love them and that I love going to concerts. So, he surprised me with the tickets. I was excited when they played “Let the Sun In,” which wasn’t on their setlist. It was a total surprise and is one of my favorite songs. It’s a heartfelt song about support and a celebration of the transformative power of love.

It’s wild because we will see Hozier on Wednesday at the Forum for the same reason: Hector surprised me with tickets. I love it! Have you heard about people leaving Hozier concerts early after he sings “Too Sweet”? Absolutely crazy. I’m not leaving until I know for a fact that man is off the stage and not coming back. It’s not on his average setlist for the ‘UNreal Unreal’ album, but I would love for him to sing “In a Week.” I don’t know how this man made a song about two rotting corpses being together so romantic.

But before I had fun last night, I’ve been having crazy drama. So, I broke my ankle a year ago, and Kaiser has been gaslighting me for the whole year by insisting that it’s only sprained. Finally, I pushed for more X-ray views than just the one they gave and to see a podiatrist. After all of this pushback, I finally saw the podiatrist, and he scheduled an MRI for me. They found a healed fracture, but I didn’t get a clear answer when I asked if it had healed properly. However, the doctor put me in a boot, which answered my question of whether it healed properly.

After six weeks, it’s almost time to take it off, leading to all my other questions and anxieties. Like what happens if my foot stays swollen even after wearing the boot? Or is it an easy transition from putting very little weight on it to all my weight? Because let me tell you, when I get up in the morning, my ankle hurts when I put pressure on it. And when I first started wearing it, I felt uneven because it’s like 2 inches off the ground. Will I feel uneven when my foot is back in regular shoes? Do any of these things make sense? No, but this is what goes through my head at 2 am. What if it’s not fixed, and I must get a cast? That’s going to ruin my Halloween costume.

Things could be worse. I only have a formally broken yet not appropriately healed ankle. I could also be behind in all my classes with two overdue personal projects that I appointed to myself. Oh, wait, I am.

Why am I behind, you ask? I don’t even know. I just feel like I don’t have enough time. And the two personal projects? Honors projects look good on transcripts, and I want to transfer with more than just my GPA; let’s be honest with work; there is no way I can be in clubs this year. Which really sucks. I loved being in MEChA and Honors Club, but I go to school until 12:30 and have to rush home, change, and get to work by 2 pm.

I’m so happy to have a car now! My friends actually helped me get it last month. It’s kind of a bittersweet story – I got it from a friend of a friend whose dad passed away, and the family wanted to sell his cars. I felt a bit guilty about it because I paid less than $1,000, and I knew the car wasn’t worth more but sentimental value. But not everyone attaches value to things, which is okay because I never would have gotten a vehicle if they did. And I’m an official car owner now, too. I’ve put some money into fixing it up, thanks, check engine light. I paid $195 for a diagnostic and $50 for the parts, and then my amazing friends helped me install the parts. They only asked for a meal from Blue Burro as a thank you, and I couldn’t be more grateful. By the way, if you’re ever in Long Beach, you should definitely try Blue Burro – it’s my favorite fast-food Mexican restaurant, second only to Hole Mole.

I will provide more updates since I really want to focus on doing a monthly reflection, and I have many things coming up. I want to share some fall-related updates and some unrelated to fall.
