A Little Baby Update

Advertisements

Well… Baby was born yesterday.

She’s here. She’s perfect. And somehow, after spending the last nine months wondering what she would look like, what she would be like, and what it would feel like to finally meet her, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she’s actually here.

I’ll write a much more in-depth birth story later because, honestly, there is a lot to unpack. It was a bit of a traumatic experience, if I’m being completely honest.

I ended up needing an emergency C-section. Thankfully, I’m recovering pretty well so far, but it definitely wasn’t the birth experience I imagined for myself.

And then today threw us another curveball.

Baby’s blood sugar levels have been really low, so she’s currently in the NICU. As of right now, her levels have bounced back up a little, which is encouraging, but the doctors are still trying to figure out why.

She was fine yesterday.

Today, we’re in the NICU.

And I think that’s the part I’m struggling with the most. I went from finally getting to hold my baby and thinking, We did it. She’s here. We’re okay, to suddenly having doctors and nurses monitoring her blood sugar and trying to figure out what’s going on.

So, that’s where we are right now.

She’s perfect. I’m recovering. We’re taking everything one moment at a time.

I’m not ready to tell the whole story yet, but I will. For now, I just wanted to give a little update because apparently motherhood decided to skip the gentle introduction and immediately throw me into the deep end.

Welcome to motherhood, I guess.
