Thoughts of the Future

Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

The future is a constant source of anxiety and worry for me. I am always stressed about what I want to achieve and do in the future. I need more money to support my future, and I worry that I won’t be able to make it to the future that I wish to have. Sometimes, I feel like giving up on my school, work, and life thanks to depression. I want a great future, but the fear of the unknown can be overwhelming, and I often feel stuck in a cycle of worry and anxiety.

To help me with my anxiety, someone suggested that I reduce my caffeine intake as it can cause stress. They also advised me to practice being present and aware of my thoughts, whether focused on the past, present, or future. I should make a game by noticing how often my thoughts time travel. Whenever I see that thoughts about the future are causing me to feel nervous or worried, especially in my body, I should bring myself back to the present. This can be done by taking a deep breath, focusing on my feet on the ground, using my senses to observe my surroundings, and engaging in activities that make me feel good. These simple steps can help me escape worry, fear, dread, and feeling overwhelmed and promote better brain function for navigating life.
