Tell us about your morning routine.
I don’t really have a morning routine anymore, at least not one that I can claim is consistent. But pre-baby, I definitely had one! It changed a little when I was pregnant, but the general idea stayed the same.
First things first: wake up and doom-scroll for about 10 minutes because apparently, I couldn’t just open my eyes and start the day like a normal person. Then it was time for breakfast. Before pregnancy, that usually meant a banana and coffee. Once I was pregnant, things switched to oatmeal, orange juice or caffeine-free tea, mixed fruit, and yogurt.
After breakfast, it was time to get ready for the day, and honestly, this was probably the most consistent part of my routine. My skincare was a whole process. We’re talking a six-step skincare routine: cleanser, toner, serums, facial oils, moisturizer, and SPF. In that exact order, because apparently my face had a schedule to keep.
I liked having those few minutes to take care of myself before the day really started. It was a little ritual, and even though it wasn’t anything particularly fancy, it made me feel like I was putting myself together and starting the day with some intention. Well, as much intention as someone who just spent 10 minutes doom-scrolling could have.
Of course, what happened after getting ready changed when I got pregnant. I worked for the first few months before eventually quitting my job and moving in with my parents. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you already know that part of the story, but for my newer readers, pregnancy came with a few life changes!
So, depending on the season of life I was in, I’d either get ready for work or settle onto my parent’s couch to watch movies and do absolutely nothing. Both were perfectly valid ways to spend a morning, if you ask me.
These days, with a baby in the picture, I don’t have much of a routine at all. My mornings are a little more unpredictable, and my six-step skincare routine has taken a backseat to figuring out what the day is going to look like. But I do miss having those little moments to myself. Maybe one day I’ll get back to them. For now, I’m just hoping to remember to eat!
