From Reader to Writer

What was your favorite subject in school?

I’ve always loved English classes in school. When I was about to start ninth grade, we received a reading list for the summer. I remember being one of the few students who read all 10 books on the list. Throughout high school, I was always in the advanced English classes, where I discovered how much I enjoy breaking down a book. It’s fun analyzing themes, characters, and symbolism to uncover deeper meanings. I also love hearing how others interpret the same story differently; those varied perspectives always make the reading experience richer and more exciting. My passion for literature has even inspired me to start writing my own book, something that grew directly out of my high school English classes and the encouragement I received from my teachers. Although I don’t need to take an English course in college because my communications major already covers that material, I still find myself eager to take English classes just for fun. There are a couple of classes I really want to try, like African-American Literature and British Literature
