The People I Spend the Most Time With (And It’s Not Who You Think)

Who do you spend the most time with?

You might expect the obvious answer to be someone like Hector or my close friends, but for me, it’s actually my coworkers.

It may seem surprising at first, but when you really think about it, it makes perfect sense. I spend nearly 9 hours a day, five days a week with them, which adds up to a significant amount of time together. We navigate challenges side by side, celebrate even the little victories, and find ways to share a laugh during the most stressful moments. From our shared caffeine cravings to piecing together those puzzling calendar invites, the bonds we’ve formed are truly special. These are the people I share my daily experiences with, and they’ve become so much more than just colleagues.

I cherish the wonderful individuals in my life outside of work. They are the ones who support me through my meltdowns after work and my constant desire to quit. They also put up with me canceling plans at the last minute. I spend about 2-3 hours a night with Hector before we go to bed on the days we both work. On our days off, we typically spend around 6 hours together. Because we have such different schedules, we only manage to see each other for about 22 hours a week.
