I’m the party planning committee

Hector’s 30th birthday is just around the corner—can you believe it? We only have two weeks until the big celebration, and I’m so excited! I’ve decided to throw a “Death to His 20s” murder mystery dinner party. I found a fun party pack online because, honestly, I have no idea how to set up a mystery like that myself. I’ve been to escape rooms and played Clue, but creating everything from scratch felt a bit overwhelming. So, a pre-made party pack it is!

I was torn between a couple of companies, including one called Night of Mystery, which has amazing reviews. In the end, we chose Master of Mystery because it fit our budget better, but I think both options are fantastic! I gave Hector a few choices, and we ended up with a circus theme, which I love. I’m pretty sure I can convince him to do some fire-breathing and magic tricks for us! I know it’s his party, but I have a feeling he’ll be our main source of entertainment!

I’ve found some really awesome party tips on both sites, especially for decorating and food ideas. At first, I had a ton of faire food ideas bouncing around in my head, but then I became a bit indecisive (surprise, surprise!). After considering many options, I’m excited about the menu I’ve put together for the party! We’ll have a fun hot dog bar, some delicious pulled pork sandwiches, and a cute little concession stand. I got the idea for the hot dog bar from my niece’s first birthday, and it’s super easy to set up! You just cook the hot dogs and lay out the buns for guests to help themselves, letting them create their own unique creations. I’ve found that if it has a fun name, nobody will mind that it’s just hot dogs! Plus, we all know his family can be a little picky!

I’ll also have a variety of toppings available, along with chili and nacho cheese on the side for anyone wanting to whip up a tasty chili dog—this option is always a crowd favorite!

As for the concession stand, it will be a colorful table filled with all kinds of snacks, sodas, chips, mini water bottles, and yummy cupcakes. This way, the main food stays separate from the snacks that everyone can munch on throughout the day. I have small menus that I will print out and display next to the food.

I’m so excited because my decorations are finally coming from Amazon! I know we’re supposed to boycott them, but I couldn’t resist the affordable options and the promise of quick delivery. I even got a photo prop. However, I did come across this adorable jumbo-sized popcorn bucket made of cardboard—it’s priced at a jaw-dropping 50 bucks! Seriously, who can believe that for a painted cardboard box? Instead, I’m taking matters into my own hands! Hector thinks I’ll spend the same amount by the time I gather all the materials, but I’m determined to prove him wrong! Stay tuned for updates on my DIY adventure!
