A cozy little mix of festive fun and gentle adventure—even if winter doesn’t exactly bring snow to my doorstep.
Winter where I live is… different. No snowflakes, no frosty mornings, no bundled-up noses or snowmen melting in the yard. Instead, winter here means cool breezes, pastel sunsets, and the yearly tradition of pretending 62°F is “absolutely freezing.” So this year, I decided to make a Winter Bucket List that fits my version of the season—still festive, still magical, just a bit sunnier than the classic winter wonderland.
Here’s what I’m planning:
1. Visit a Holiday Light Festival
If winter won’t give me snow, I’ll happily take twinkly lights, glowing displays, and giant ornaments instead.
2. Go Ice Skating at an Outdoor or Beachside Rink
The closest thing I get to “winter sports.” Will I cling to the rail? Very likely. Will it still be adorable? Absolutely.
3. Have a Christmas Movie + Hot Chocolate Night
Blankets, marshmallows, and the same movies I watch every December like it’s my personal tradition (because it is).
4. Build a Gingerbread House or Do Festive Baking
Gingerbread architecture is not my strength, but enthusiasm counts. So I’ll try a gingerbread house, but honestly, I’ll choose a different festive treat. Preferably something with lots of frosting.
5. Take a Sunset Walk With a Holiday Drink
Sweater on, warm drink in hand, and a sky that turns cotton-candy pink—my version of winter magic.
6. Do a Day Trip to the Mountains for Snow
If I want actual snow, I’ve got to go find it. A single day of sledding, laughing, and frozen toes is the perfect dose.
7. Try a New Coffee Shop
Seasonal drinks, comfy seating, and the joy of pretending I’m in a colder, more wintery city for about an hour.
8. Do a January Sunset Hike
Winter sunsets are bolder, brighter, and prettier—and hiking during this time feels like a reward, not a chore.
9. Visit a Museum or Botanical Garden on a Cool Day
Peaceful, pretty, and perfect for that “I want to do something, but not too much” winter mood.
10. Have a Cozy At-Home Spa Night
Candles lit, everything soft and warm, fresh sheets, clean space—my favorite way to start the new year feeling reset and renewed.
Winter may look a little different where I live, but it’s still full of moments that feel warm, bright, and just a little bit magical. And honestly? That’s enough for me.
