Is it still Cultural appropriation when it’s my culture?

I’ve talked about this before; I’m mixed. I’m very light-skinned, so to white people, I am racially ambiguous, which means they know I’m not white, but they don’t know what I am, and to everyone else, I look white. 

So here comes the controversial part: I want to get really cute braids, but I feel like it’s gonna make me look like the Kardashians when they had box braids 

Is it still Cultural appropriation when it’s my culture?
