I’m burnt out. Like, full-on crispy. Yesterday I posted about trying to find a place to live — and honestly, that alone has been enough to push me to the edge. It’s been overwhelming and frustrating and way too expensive. So when this weekend in Vegas came up, I didn’t think twice. I needed a break from real life, even if it’s just a change of scenery for a few days.
Is it ideal? No. I’m not even excited for the drive. I always get stuck in traffic going to Vegas. Always. But when I checked flights for me and Hector, the total for both of us ended up doubling the price of our hotel. So… we’re driving. With snacks. And low expectations.
There’s no real plan for the trip, which honestly feels kind of freeing. Day one is for family — I’m seeing my mom, dad, sister, and nephews, and we’re all going to see the new Superman movie. And no, I don’t care if Fox News is out here calling it “woke Superman.” I just want to sit in a freezing cold movie theater with people I love and not think about my to-do list for two hours.
After that? My only real goal is to avoid the sun. It’s 110–112 degrees this week. Actual hell. Last week was all rain and monsoon vibes, but now we’re back to the kind of heat that makes you question every life choice. I truly don’t know how I survived this weather when I lived here five years ago. Did I just… walk around in this?? Unclear.
If the stars align (and I don’t melt), I really want to visit a Station Casino buffet. My mom and I used to go at least once a month when I lived here. It was kind of our thing. Pre-COVID it was cheap and good and felt like a little luxury. I have no idea what it’s like now, but I’m hoping for the best. Or at least for mashed potatoes.
We’re not even leaving until nighttime. Partly because we’re touring a few potential apartments during the day — still trying to figure out where we’re going to live next. That alone is its own stress spiral.
And also? We’re waiting on my check to hit. Yep. If it doesn’t drop, we’ll be heading to Vegas with, $100 and vibes which in this economy that barely covers gas. So fingers crossed for my check to arrive miracle sometime before we hit the road.
The plan is to drive overnight and (hopefully) dodge the worst of the desert heat and traffic. Not exactly glamorous, but I’ll take what I can get right now.
So yeah — no wild Vegas weekend here. Just a heatwave, a bunch of family hugs, hopefully a good buffet, and a break from thinking about housing applications and to-do lists.
Fingers crossed the universe handles things while I check out for a minute.
